Last year, over 20 people were attacked leaving gay bars and restaurants in Dallas' Oak Lawn neighborhood. After the number of victims grew to double digits, law enforcement in the area increased. Still, Oak Lawn hasn't felt as safe.
The Gayborhood is a short film in response to the attacks. As Meryl said while quoting Princess Leia, "Take your broken heart, make it into art." In today's political climate, it's getting harder not to. We want to show what it looks like when people are prepared for the fight.
In the short we meet Bailey and Sam. Two longtime friends who don't shy away from their neighborhood's dark allies. They're not vigilantes, but are prepared. The characters will be played by Tyler Johnston and Jade Smith. Two veterans of Dallas Comedy House.
Pre-production is currently underway. Original music is being written by East Texas songstress Meredith Crawford and Frankie Orange, Tyler and Patrick Lenard. Costumes are being crafted by Babes Never Die. We're currently casting two more supporting characters. Over the next couple weeks we'll be finalizing our script, location scouting for the perfectly lit alley and begining to reach out to media partners.
